Deepavali 2007

Deepavali, also called Diwali is a major Hindu festival. It is the "Festival of Lights," which symbolises the victory of good over evil. Fireworks are associated with the festival.
In south India, deepavali commemorates the killing of Narakasura by Lord Krishna's wife Sathyabhama. Before Narakasura's death, he requested a boon that everyone should celebrate his death with colorful light.

Aksharabhyasam

Aksharabhyasam is the ritual which is an induction to formal studies. We invoke the Gods to bless the kid in his endeavour. Instruments required for studying (something to write on, to write with, books) are presented along with a set of new clothes. Rice is spread on a plate and child is placed on one's lap; holding his hand, "Hari Om" is written on the rice using a gold ring followed by the child's name.

Boys & Toys!!

Aakash just loves his construction blocks, trucks, bikes and trains. All the construction trucks are named after Bob,The Builder's machines - Scoop being his favourite as of now :)

He just loves this shirt now!! He actually wanted to get a picture in this :)He goes..."Cow!!! Moooooo!!!!" every time he sees the cow. LOL!!

Mickey Dosa

We go through a lot of struggle sometimes to make Aakash eat his dinner. Sometimes you have to give him his toys and kind of sneak through opportune moments (when he opens his mouth) to feed him, sometimes you ignore him and he comes back, sometimes you actually have to be creative! In the picture below, Aakash and I created, what we call the “Mickey Dosa”

Surprisingly, he ate it! He had his ears first, followed by cheeks, followed by mouth and then he said "Appa wann one-one more Mickey Dosa!" LOL

The leaf hopper ... Aakash calls it Snake!

12th Floor New York City - The View

Its not common for Aakash to view the skyline buildings back in Long Island. This time he got to view it from the 12th floor :) He was pointing at the little cars from up here and enjoyed the outline of the group of buildings.

Little Handyman

We can even change the title to "unwanted handyman" :) The biggest focus was not on doing the handyman job, but making sure that he is safe! Anyways he lost interest when he realized some of the tools are really heavy. But yeah, it is kind of cute that he offers to help ...

There are times when you are so tired and feel a little low, that's when Aakash's smile makes so much difference to our life. Yes it is true ... his smile attracts us more than gravity!

Now, I did not expect him to give me that LOOK :) when I entered the toy room to get him out. If you can read his lip, he was yelling NO NO to me. But I think he was cute enough to take a shot though ...
